No — with ESS you don't need the Epicor API module to integrate Prophet 21. We built a native on-premises API layer purpose-built for P21, so integrations run on both Epicor Cloud and legacy on-prem installs that never licensed the module. There's nothing extra to buy from Epicor to move data in and out of the ERP. This removes the single most common blocker to P21 integration: many long-running on-prem sites are told connectivity requires an upgrade or a new license first. Through the Azure gateway we connect Prophet 21 to webstores, marketplaces, 3PLs, payment and AR platforms, and custom internal systems — with bi-directional, real-time data flow covering orders, inventory, pricing, customers and documents. Because the endpoints span both interactive and transactional APIs across the ERP, new integrations typically reuse existing building blocks rather than starting from scratch. If a system can speak an API or exchange files, we can put it in sync with P21. ESS scopes new connections quickly.

ESS uses an out-of-the-box Microsoft Azure gateway and portal to connect external systems with Prophet 21. External applications call secure gateway endpoints; the gateway routes each request to the right P21 connector or custom endpoint, and data flows back the same way — bi-directional and in real time. You get unlimited API connectivity through P21 connectors and/or custom Azure gateway endpoints, plus a secure web portal where your team manages roles, notifications, logs and access per endpoint. That gives IT full visibility and control over every integration touching the ERP, without building or maintaining middleware in-house. The gateway works identically whether Prophet 21 runs on Epicor Cloud or on-premises.

Yes. EDI is part of ESS's endpoint library, so purchase orders, acknowledgements, invoices and shipment documents flow electronically between Prophet 21 and your trading partners. EDI transactions ride the same Azure gateway as every other P21 integration, with bi-directional, real-time processing rather than batch drops. Just as important is what happens with vendors who aren't EDI-capable: our AI document processing captures the PDFs and emails they still send — invoices and purchase order acknowledgements — and posts them into P21 through the same API layer. That combination gives distributors one automated document pipeline covering both EDI and non-EDI partners, instead of automating half the vendor base and re-keying the rest.

Yes. ESS integrations move data both ways in real time, so Prophet 21 and the connected system stay continuously in sync — orders, inventory, pricing, customers and documents. When a webstore order lands, it's in P21 immediately; when inventory changes in the ERP, connected channels see it right away — no overnight batch files and no morning reconciliation of yesterday's mismatches.
